The Project Management Program

Project management is the discipline of planning, organizing, securing, managing, leading, and controlling resources to achieve specific goals. A project is a temporary endeavor with a defined beginning and end, undertaken to meet unique goals and objectives, typically to bring about beneficial change or added value.

While the outcome of operations management is the consistent and effective harvesting of value from assets owned by a business, project management is about change management: bridging the gap between the projects and business operations.

The basic tools of System Thinking are diagrams and this short course will provide a practical grounding in the use of diagrams to guide the analysis and thinking around messy problems. A systemic approach is about taking a broader view of a situation and trying to understand the relationships, influences and connections between the elements which contribute to the maintenance of the observed behavior of the system. The challenge is to “see the system” in order to take action.
